Does anyone know about the new Bell communication tower going in at Nautilus Marina?

    • Bernard says:

Hi Shelley, the tower is one of those fake pine trees that are sprouting up in Muskoka and Haliburton. It is to be 30m tall when complete.

  3. Debbie says:

YEAH!!! They moved the webcam, a sure sign cottage time is here….

Hello, we have just invested in a submersible water pump. Does anyone have any good ideas how to keep the silt and weeds out?

We would like to leave the pump in year round.

    Thank you!

      • Killion says:

    Hi folks

  8. Cathy says:

There is a new show on HGTV with one of those reno guys building a cottage on an island. Called something like “Bryan’s House on the Rocks”. Series starts this week. It looks a lot like Honey Harbour/Port Severn area. Does anybody know did they film this around the area?

    • Shelley says:

I thought it looked like Georgian Bay as well, but no idea where. There is also another new show called “Summer Home” on tonight at 8:oopm on HGTV. Cottage life Television is also returning on the travel channel.

    • Killion says:

Up north of us. District of Parry Sound.

    • Bernard says:

The episode I saw was at the Moon River near Arnold’s Bay

      • Killion says:

Huh, is that where it was…. interesting. I googled Georgian Bay Airways (featured in the show with a float plane), home base being Parry Sound. Concluded (incorrectly) that was the area the show was shot in.
        Thanks for the clarification Bernard…

I want to take my son pike/muskie fishing does anybody know any good spots up by bone island / mc crae lake ? Any info would be great :) thanks

    • Killion says:

      Hi Adam,

The entire area around the mouth of McCrae Lake is good for Pike and even the odd Musky, as is Longuissa Bay opposite the Northwest tip of Bone Island on the west side of the Musquash Channel & just north of the entrance to the Freddy Channel. You have to troll, the most effective lure to use being a 3″ – 6″ Rapala. Years & years ago pretty much anywhere on any side or shore of Bone Island was excellent, impossible not to catch Pike, Musky, Bass etc however those days are long long gone. You have to head even further up the shore to Go Home, Sans Souci etc to hunt the big ones however, you should be able to pull the odd 4-8lb’er out of the McCrea Lake run-off area and Longuissa if you get lucky, maybe even a “giant”. Confidence is everything. Believe you’ll catch a fish and you will.

      • Adam says:

        Killion,
Thanks so much ! It’s nice someone took the time to give such imformative info..I’ve caught small pike {3-8} pounds around the mouth of McCrae Lake but yet to hook the big dogs…Ill try “Go Home bay” and Longuissa Bay..When talking 6″ rapalas are you refering to the sliver and black minnow ?

    • Killion says:

Yer welcome Adam… and ya, the silver & black minnow style, which comes in various lengths & colors. Rapala is simply one of several brand names, the original. Good luck with that!…

Hey Mark! If you look at the top of this website in the green border you’ll see a heading marked water levels. Tho the measurements are taken at Midland, it’s a pretty good reference to the levels at HH. The site gives daily, monthly, and historical data going back to the early 1900s.

  11. Mark says:

For those of you who’ve been up…what is water level like? About same as last year? Any improvement or, god forbid, worse?

    • Shelley says:

      Hi Mark,
We opened last weekend and the water levels are low, but it is spring. The trouble is we didn’t see much run off anywhere. We better hope for a wet spring.

  12. Adam says:

Will I be safe to go up to “BONE ISLAND ” ? Ill be using the 15′ boat with a 25hp

  13. Shelley says:

The Ice is gone….WooHoo!!! Let the cottage season begin.

  14. Adam says:

    Hey kevin,
Our cottage is also on bone island right by the little island on the east side ! Im hoping to bring out the small boat aswell..

  15. Kevin says:

I was at the Honey Harbor Boat Club earlier today and as far as I could see in all directions, the ice was gone. I saw a few small run-a-boats heading out to the main boat channel. Does anyone know how far out you can make it before hitting ice or wishfully thinking, no ice, only open water? Our cottage is on the back side of Bone Island just beyond Palasade’s Bay. I hope to launch the small boat next weekend in hopes of getting to the cottage. Any updates would be greatly appreciated.

    • Eric says:

      Hi Kevin,

A buddy of mine, also in Palasade Bay, said that a contractor reported that as of last Saturday, you could get to the passage between Webber Island and Bone Island but just after that passage, it was all ice. With these temps, I would guess that by this weekend you could get thru. I’m sure the entrance to the channel where Adam is is also already open, it’s just that small area in betwwen that has to break up. Palasade Bay always seems one of the last areas to go. I cut a hole with a chainsaw on Mar 10th and there was still 8 inches of ice (back of the Bay). Good luck and enjoy!
